Peach's Surgery

This morning I was told that Peach had her full heart reconstruction done last Friday. She is back in the orphanage today.

This surprising news comes not from the surgeon but from our facilitator who got it from the caretaker who was with Peach for the duration of her stay in the hospital.

It is hard to be someone’s mother yet not be their mother at the same time. I want to ask the doctor questions. I want to know exactly what was done. I want to see her echo results and know her blood O2 levels. I want to tell them not to lift her up from under her armpits.

I have no right. I have no access. I have no voice.

Could it be true that it is done? All done and she breezed through it? I pray that it is so.

We understand. We got an email one morning with pictures of Oksana with casts from hip to foot on both of her legs with a big bar between them holding them apart. We did not even know she was having surgery! Talk about a shock. We never did get any answers about it until we got here. Just so you know we were also told that her surgery went well!

I pray that she continues to heal well from her surgery!

Oh, wow! That is incredible news. Praying that the surgery did go as well as they said, and that she'll recover perfectly. What a change in your mind/plans/feelings it must be to suddenly have that finished! And how hard not to be there and not to be able to get answers to all those questions. What a turn of events!

I can empathize. My son lay dying in a hospital bed spetic while I was home with my other children. I had no clue. He is good now and pray Peach will be too. Be blessed

I cried when I read that. I'm so happy that she had her surgery and that it went well. God's really taking excellent care of that little angel of yours!

Me too, I cried when I read it. I was awestruck, and relieved, and thankful to God.

Sorry, I had to delete my first comment! But thank you for making me feel like I'm not alone. Some people make me feel like I'm impatient, and I am! I'm going to miss my kids first day of school too, and my oldest starts junior high, and I'm already nervous for my shy boy. But at the rate we are going, our date may be after school starts!
I'm just hoping she can wear these clothes again next year. DS kids are usually small, Jax still wears a 2t and he's 4!
It would make me crazy not knowing what they did in her surgery. Because isn't she a single ventricle? That is not just one surgery, but a series of surgeries!

Lacey,

You are soooo not alone. I know exactly how you are feeling, and I am really struggling right now too!

Ahh, my typical almost 4 year old still has a 2T waist! So you never know :-)

Peach actually has a complete AV Canal defect but her body reacted in a rare and deadly way to it. (I think there may have been translation issues with the original medical report that made it to RR.) However, they told me she had her artery and her heart fixed... but if she had her heart fixed, she didn't need her artery banded... third-hand news translated into English just isn't reliable.

I love hearing from you. It is encouraging, and makes me want to post more often ;-)
